Zipper luggage

Zipper-closure luggage — when to choose it over a frame

Zipper-closure cases close two shells along a heavy-duty zipper track instead of a metal frame. They weigh less, cost less and often pack slightly more than an equivalent frame case, at the price of a little rigidity. For cabin-focused lines and value ranges, a quality zipper system is the right call.

What separates a good zipper case

  • Zipper spec: strong teeth (e.g. #5 nylon with painted pullers, as used across CLK sets) resist forced opening and repeated daily use.
  • Track guard: a fabric or rubber lip over the zipper reduces water ingress and wear at the corners.
  • Shell pairing: zipper closures work with PC, PC+ABS and soft/fabric constructions — check the whole carry system, not just the closure.

Representative models: 3-piece PC zipper set, front-pocket zipper set, foldable zipper set, and the waterproof Oxford-fabric set for soft-side demand.
