Five machines, five mechanical risks. This page shows each station, the Chinese test-method standard behind it where one exists, the parameters we actually run, and which of those results have been verified by an accredited third-party laboratory.

The five stations and the standards behind them

The model is built to scale, one unit to one metre, so the drop height, drum diameter and walking distance can be read off the model instead of being taken on trust.

StationWhat it doesChinese test-method standard
01 · Drop tester
跌落试验机
Releases the loaded case from a fixed height onto a flat concrete floor, base first, then each remaining face, then each longitudinal edge.QB/T 2921《箱包跌落试验方法》
02 · Oscillation tester
箱包震荡试验机
Lifts the case by its handle or strap to a set stroke and lets it fall under its own weight, repeatedly.QB/T 2922-2018《箱包振荡冲击试验方法》
03 · Drum impact tester
滚筒冲击试验机
A 2.2 m drum lined with a hexagonal steel shell and wooden baffles turns slowly and carries the case up, then lets it tumble back down.QB/T 4116-2023《箱包滚筒试验方法》
04 · Stair test rig
箱包楼梯测试机
Step blocks reach the case on a conveyor; the wheels strike each step, climb it and drop off the far side.No Chinese standard exists for this test
05 · Mileage tester
箱包里程试验机
A moving belt with obstacle plates runs under the wheels of a case pulled at its handle, counting the kilometres travelled.QB/T 2920-2018《箱包行走试验方法》

These are method standards: they define how to run the test, not what has to pass. The product standard that sets the pass level for travel cases is QB/T 2155-2018《旅行箱包》, which refers back to the four methods above.

Verified against CNS 15331:2018

Separately from the Chinese system, five criteria were tested for us at SGS Taiwan, a laboratory accredited by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation and designated by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection. Every result was recorded as conforming. The clause and the parameters applied are listed here, because "passed the standard" gives a buyer nothing they can check.

ItemClauseParameters appliedResult
Appearance4.1No damage, scratches, staining or fading; metal parts free of rust, burrs and breakage; lining free of stains, tears and fading; no loose assemblies.Conforms
Loading vibration4.3.2 / 5.10Bag loaded to 1.03 times the declared load; 30–45 cycles per minute; 5–10 cm amplitude; 400 cycles.Conforms
Telescopic handle4.3.4 / 5.12Handle fully extended, grip clamped, base fixed; 20±5 cycles per minute; 500 cycles.Conforms
Walking (rolling)4.3.5 / 5.13Loaded to the declared weight; 50±10° angle; 4 km/h; 32 km continuous.Conforms
Drop4.3.1 / 5.9Conditioned at −12±2 °C for 4 hours and tested within 30 minutes of removal; 90 cm free fall onto flat concrete; 5 base drops, plus 1 per remaining face, plus 1 per longitudinal edge, 14 drops in total.Conforms

Where the two systems differ

CNS 15331 is the Taiwan national standard and it is the reference for goods sold in Taiwan; QB/T standards are Chinese industry standards and they are what a mainland factory is normally audited against. They do not cover the same list. The drum test has a Chinese method standard of its own, QB/T 4116, but no drum clause appears in the CNS 15331 results above. Buyers in the EU and North America usually specify ISTA or ASTM protocols for the same physical risks, and retail chains add handling requirements on top.

The stair rig is the honest exception. No Chinese, Taiwanese or international standard governs a stair test for luggage, so the station runs as a wear simulation under our own procedure: the same step height and the same wheel load for a fixed number of descents, repeated until the wheel, axle or trolley shows play. We report it as an internal test and do not attach a standard number to it.

How to use this page in a sourcing decision

If you are specifying a case for the Chinese market, ask for QB/T 2155-2018 conformity and name the four method standards you want evidenced. If you are selling into Taiwan, ask for CNS 15331. If you are selling into the EU or North America, name the ISTA or ASTM procedure your retailer requires and we will quote it as a separate programme. Send us the clause your buyer has written down and we will confirm what we can evidence, and say so plainly where we cannot.

Frequently asked

Which standards are these five machines run to? The drop tester follows QB/T 2921, the oscillation tester QB/T 2922-2018, the drum tester QB/T 4116-2023 and the mileage tester QB/T 2920-2018, all Chinese test-method standards. The stair test rig has no corresponding Chinese standard and runs under our own procedure.

How high is the drop test, and how many times? In the CNS 15331 sequence the case is conditioned at −12±2 °C for four hours and dropped 90 cm onto flat concrete within 30 minutes of removal, 14 times in total: five on the base, one per remaining face and one per longitudinal edge.

Is the drum test covered by a standard? Yes, by the Chinese method standard QB/T 4116-2023. It is not part of CNS 15331, which is why the drum does not appear in the CNS results table above.
