Front pocket luggage: what the pocket changes
A front pocket adds a separate compartment on the face of the case, usually with its own zip, so documents, a laptop or a jacket can be reached without opening the main body. On a hard shell this is a moulded or applied pocket; on a hybrid it is normally fabric built onto a rigid back panel.
Where the engineering sits
The shell has to stay stiff enough that the pocket wall does not flex into the main compartment, and the pocket zip has to run clear of the shell's flex line. Where a device sleeve is part of the design its dimensions are fixed before tooling, because the padding depth changes the pocket depth.
