Weighing and multi-purpose handles

A weighing handle has a load cell built into the top handle and a small display that reads the case weight when it is lifted. It removes the need for a separate scale at check-in, which is the reason the feature sells in markets with strict cabin weight enforcement.

What to specify

The load range has to cover the case at its maximum packed weight with margin, and the display has to stay readable with the case in hand. Because the electronics sit in the handle, the handle design is fixed early: the cell, the display window and the battery are all part of the same tooling.
