How to Verify an EC REP Appointment and Spot Red Flags

An EC REP Certificate Is Easy to Check. And Easy to Fake if Nobody Checks.

I'll say it straight: the four blocks on an EC REP certificate take about five minutes to verify, and about five minutes to forge convincingly. The difference is whether anyone actually reads them. Since December 13, 2024, GPSR has made this document a real compliance gate for EU-bound goods — so reading them matters more than it used to.

Verification runs in four steps: check the appointing manufacturer, confirm the representative is EU-established, check the agreement number and validity, and confirm the conditions — the CE documents and technical files — are actually maintained.

Check 2: The Representative Must Be in the EU

The entire value of an authorized representative is its EU establishment. EUREPSTAR GmbH sits in Ingolstadt, Germany, with a German address, phone and email on the certificate.

A "representative" without an EU establishment does not satisfy GPSR. This is the first thing to check — and the easiest to fake. No EU address, no appointment.

Check 4: The Conditions Behind the Certificate

The certificate is conditional. The representative accepts the role provided the manufacturer maintains CE certificates, updated technical files and Declarations of Conformity.

An appointment with no documentation behind it is an address with nothing to reach for. Verification therefore means asking for the folder, not just the certificate. If the folder doesn't exist, neither does the representation, functionally speaking.

Representative outside the EU. The role requires EU establishment.
